Crested geckos
A crested gecko’s diet should consist primarily of a wet crested gecko diet, crickets, and small amounts of mealworms or waxworms. Live food should never be larger than the distance between the gecko’s eyes. Dust crickets with calcium until slightly white, and supplement mealworms with a multivitamin. Crested geckos are nocturnal, so feed once daily, mid-afternoon to evening.
- Juveniles: per gecko, 3–4 small multivitamin-dusted mealworms, 3–4 calcium-dusted 3/8″ crickets, and about 1/4 teaspoon of wet diet. Remove leftover food before adding new food, and clean and sanitize bowls if there is feces present.
- Large juveniles and sub-adults: 1/2″ crickets for large juveniles and 3/4″ for sub-adults, medium mealworms, and about 1/2 teaspoon of wet diet per gecko.
Leopard geckos
A leopard gecko’s diet should consist primarily of mealworms and crickets. Food must never be larger than the distance between the gecko’s eyes. Dust crickets with calcium until slightly white, and supplement mealworms with a multivitamin. Leopard geckos are nocturnal, so feed once daily, mid-afternoon to evening.
- Juveniles: per gecko, 3–4 small multivitamin-dusted mealworms and 3–4 calcium-dusted 3/8″ crickets. Keep a small dish of calcium supplement in the enclosure to lick from. Remove leftover food before adding new food.
- Large juveniles and sub-adults: 1/2″ crickets for large juveniles and 3/4″ for sub-adults, medium mealworms, and 5–6 mealworms per gecko for sub-adults.
Both reptiles and rodents can carry diseases that are transferable to humans. Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling your pet or the frozen rodents you feed them.
